The following is a transcript for the episode "Blank Day".
Script
(The book opens up to where we left off in the previous season of the TV show.)
Poppy: Things have taken an eerie turn in Troll Village. Branch and I were returning from one of our adventures when... (She and Branch gasp because many Trolls are frozen.)
Branch: What happened to everyone?
Poppy: Dad! (She waves at her father, but he doesn’t answer.) What’s going on? It’s like they’ve all been… frozen solid! (The camera zooms out to see the frozen Trolls. Branch gasps and bumps into a frozen DJ Suki.)
Branch: Huh?
Poppy: What...? What could have caused this? An illness? A magic spell? Or is it…? (She and Branch gasp as they hear the bushes rustling. They whimper in fear and Keith comes out.)
Keith: Freeze tag!
Poppy and Branch: Oh. Keith.
Keith: (Tagging Poppy and Branch) Freeze! Freeze! (Poppy yells and Branch grunts as they freeze.) Ha-ha! I tagged everyone! Keith wins! (He unfreezes DJ Suki.) Unfrozen!
DJ Suki: Hey! (Keith unfreezes a Troll couple with their baby. They sigh in relief and Keith unfreezes the baby and it starts crying. Keith then unfreezes more Trolls.)
Trolls: (As Keith is about to unfreeze a Tarantacapuff) No, no, no!
Keith: Unfrozen! (The Tarantacapuff snarls and the Trolls scream and run away. Then Keith unfreezes the rest of Trolls Village along with Sky Toronto and his assistant who sneezes.)
Sky: Gesundheit. All right, solid round of freeze tag, but it’s put us behind. We’ve got parties to supply, people. How do we make up the time?
Sky’s Assistant: I don’t know, S.T. It’s a busy week. Today is Third Best Friends Day, plus Pudding History Month is around the corner, and- (He gasps in shock.)
Sky: Come on, spit it out. You can gasp on your own time.
Sky’s Assistant: Right there! This Friday! (Sky puts on his glasses and looks at the calendar.)
Sky: By all that’s Troll-y. I need to speak with the Queen. (Later, he and his assistant show Poppy the calendar.)
Poppy: I… I don’t believe it. An entire day with nothing planned! (The camera zooms into reveal the blank spot on the calendar.) And there’s no holidays? Birthdays? Anniversaries? Reunions?
Sky: Uh-uh. (Poppy gasps.)
Poppy: How is it possible?!
Sky: A combination of abnormalities. First, the On-Fleek-Quinox starts a week late this year, and St. Scrapbook’s Day is on a Tuesday.
Poppy: Whoa! Wow! A real Blank Day. We can actually create a new holiday. (A Glitter Trolls pops up out of the bushes.)
Glitter Troll #1: A new holiday?
Poppy: Yeah!
Sky: No, no, no. (He guides Poppy away from the Glitter Troll.) Queen Poppy, before you share this information, perhaps you should think this through. Creating a new holiday is every Troll’s dream.
Poppy: Oh. But I can only make one Troll’s dream come true.
Sky: Correct. So if this isn’t handled discreetly, you could end up disappointing the entire village.
Poppy: You’re right. We should definitely keep it quiet for now.
Sky: Good plan. That said, I told everyone.
Poppy: What?!
DJ Suki: (offscreen) Poppy! (She appears with Poppy and Sky.) I heard someone gets to make a new holiday! You’ve just got to pick me! I have the best idea!
Poppy: Oh! Hey, DJ.
Smidge: (Appearing in the bush) No, no, no! Pick me! I’ve got an entire scrapbook of holiday ideas!
Poppy: (Backing up next to Sky) You do?
Guy Diamond: (Holding another scrapbook) Me, too!
Cooper: Me four! Oops! I skipped one. (He laughs and a huge group of Trolls appear from the bushes.)
Poppy: They’re all great, but picking one is very difficult. (The crowd yells and she whimpers. She goes to Branch’s bunker for some help.) How am I going to make this choice? I don’t want to crush so many Trolls’ dreams. So I came to the only person who can help.
Branch: Wow. I’m flattered.
Poppy: Of course. Who else can I count on to be so cold and emotionless?
Branch: Oh. Eh, I’ll take it. And, actually, I think I have just the thing. (He takes out a machine and uncovers it.) Ta-da! My Select-o-Tron.
Poppy: Oh. I’m not following.
Branch: (sighs) It’s a device I invented that helps me make tough decisions based purely on objective data.
Poppy: Oh. I’m losing interest. (She tries to walk away, but Branch stops her.)
Branch: Just look. I use it to help me decide what crops to plant for an optimal harvest. I just plug in some variables, like current rainfall, humidity, soil quality, pull the lever, and… (The machine pops up a pop-up Troll.)
Pop-up: You should plant turnips! Yay!
Poppy: Branch.
Branch: What? I’m allowed to be whimsical. Point is, I can retool it to assign each Troll’s holiday a point value. The most points wins.
Poppy: (gasps) If the machines did it for me, then I wouldn’t hurt anyone’s feelings! (She looks at the machine and cackles.) Do it. (Branch adds the holiday symbols to the machine.)
Branch: All right, that should do it. Time for a test. What’s your favorite holiday?
Poppy: Hug Day.
Branch: OK, Hug Day. (He starts typing the formula for the holiday.) Affection ratio, double jubilation matrix, festivity quotient, carry the three, times pie, minus cake. (He finishes the formula and pulls the lever.)
Pop-up: 99 Holiday Points! Way to go! Yay!
Poppy: Branch, you did it! You reduced tradition and nostalgia down to cold, hard numbers!
Branch: Well, it wasn’t that big a deal. Oh, great, now I’m blushing. (He chuckles as he blushes.)
Poppy: (At the Blank Day Pitch Party, Poppy is getting ready for the Trolls to pick a new holiday. She speaks with a microphone.) All right, Trolls, who’s ready to pick a new holiday up in here?! (The crowd cheers.) Good! I’m thrilled to hear all of your ideas. Who’s first?
DJ Suki: (Raising her hand) Ooh! Ooh, ooh! (Poppy helps her onto the stage.)
Poppy: OK, DJ, let her rip! (She gives the microphone to DJ Suki, jumps off the stage and a curtain appears.)
DJ: Suki: Because we all know there’s a second step to giving thanks, introducing You’re Welcomes-giving! (The curtain opens up to reveal three Trolls sitting at a table with food and drinks.)
All: You’re welcome!
DJ Suki: (laughs) You’re welcome.
All: (laugh) You’re welcome. (They say the same thing over and over while Branch calculates the results. After that, Guy Diamond comes up with his holiday idea. Three Glitter Trolls slide down a pole and are glowing.)
Crowd: 3! 2! 1! (A wave of glitter sprays onto a group of Trolls.)
Guy Diamond: Wahoo! It’s New Glitter’s Eve! And when the ball drops, every Troll is magically given the gift to glitter for one special night.
Poppy: Wow. “Magically”? How exactly does it work?
Guy Diamond: Buh-buh-buh. I’m a big picture Troll, Poppy. I leave the details to you. Just remember, “There’s no shiny without the heinie.” (He flies away on a Flyer Bug.)
Poppy: Well, OK, then. (Biggie shows his holiday idea next.)
Biggie: (Held in a pink and orange tentacle) It’s called Snuggle Squid Appreciation Day! (The Snuggle Squid’s face appears and he hugs it.)
Poppy: Ooh!
Biggie: An entire day of a Snuggle Squid snuggling you… (The Snuggle Squid picks up seven more Trolls.) And seven of your friends!
All: Aw!
Glitter Troll #2: (Sad that he didn’t get to be snuggled) Aw! (Satin and Chenille show their holiday idea next.)
Chenille: It’s called Twin-dependence Day; a day when you pretend your sister doesn’t exist!
Satin: (Popping up from behind Chenille) What?! That’s not what we discussed!
Chenille: Did you hear something? (Cooper shows his holiday idea next.)
Cooper: I call it Non-Sequitur Day.
Poppy: Uh-huh. And how do we celebrate it?
Cooper: I’ve never eaten a carrot! (He and the crowd laugh. (He does various tricks like putting on a ballet shoe, playing chimes, and juggling oranges.)
Poppy: Great! (Branch sighs and lies his head on the table. Later, the audience is cheering and Poppy is back on the stage. She talks with the microphone again.) Whoo! What an incredible group of ideas, you guys! I loved them all!
Smidge: Yeah, but whose idea are you gonna choose, Poppy?
Poppy: Eh, I don’t know. That’s for the machine to decide. Branch. (Branch comes up with the Select-O-Tron.)
Branch: First up, You’re Welcomes-giving gets… (He starts calculating the results.)
DJ Suki: Here we go!
Pop-up: 87 points! Yay!
DJ Suki: All right!
Troll #1: Way to go!
Troll #2: Yeah!
Branch: Next up, Puns on the Beach Day.
Creek: (To a male Troll) It’s a real shell-ebration. (He laughs as the male Troll groans.)
Pop-up: 87 points!
Creek: Yay! (The crowd gasps in shock.)
Poppy: (On the microphone) Wait. The same score?
Branch: Uh… (He checks on the machine.)
Poppy: No, I’m sure that’s just a fluke. (She laughs sheepishly.)
Branch: Biggest Cupcake Day?
Pop-up: 87 points! Yay! (The audience gasp and a Troll drops a big cupcake.)
Branch: Flowers for Hours Day?
Pop-up: 87 points! (The results are the same. Two Trolls are seen wearing flowers all over their bodies as the crowd gasps again.)
Branch: Face Painting Day?
Pop-up: 87 points! Yay! (The results are the same. Branch tries Backwards Day, Haircut Day, Overdramatic Reaction Day, but the results are still the same.)
Sky’s Assistant: We’re all done for! (He screams and runs around.)
Poppy: Branch, what is wrong with the machine?
Branch: Nothing. It just so happens the holidays deserve the same score. The Select-o-Tron is perfect.
Poppy: No, it’s useless!
Branch: Perfectly useless.
Smidge: Poppy, you’ve got to decide. Blank Day is tomorrow!
Creek: Break the tie, Poppy.
Harper: Yeah.
Guy Diamond: Which do you want?
Poppy: Uh… (Branch gives her the notepad.) Well. (She whimpers as the crowd gets impatient.) I-if I have to choose, then um… I-I guess we’ll celebrate… (Her heart beats as she thinks.) Everyone’s holiday, on the same day! (The crowd pauses for a moment and cheers. Branch does a face palm and groans. The next day, every Troll is celebrating every holiday. Some Trolls form a triangle like they are doing cheerleading.)
All: Yay for Cheer Day!
Troll Child #1: (Sack jumping on mushrooms) Happy Sack Jumping Day!
Celine: I love Spin Yourself Silly Day! (She spins around until she falls.)
Troll Couple: Happy Candy Fencing Day! (Poppy and Branch walk by.)
Branch: So, essentially, you decided not to make a decision?
Poppy: Hey, I’m not ashamed of that. Just look at the results. (Keith peels a banana next to banana splits.)
Keith: Happy Banana Split Day!
Poppy: Who says you can’t please everyone?
Rufus: Hey!
Poppy: Uh-oh.
Rufus: What kind of a Troll would fill a hole on Hole Digging Day?!
Troll #2: What kind of a Troll would dig a hole on Hole Filling Day?! (He and Rufus pick up their shovels and growl at each other.)
Poppy: Whoa! We can work this out. (But the male Trolls fight with their shovels.)
Branch: Maybe choosing all the holidays was a bad idea.
Troll #3: Happy Walk on Stilts Day! (He slips on a banana peel.)
Poppy: Hm. (Biggie and some other Trolls are still snuggling with the Snuggle Squid.)
Biggie: (sighs) Snuggling all day is the best. Smidge! What are you wearing? (The camera reveals Smidge dressed as a Puffalo.)
Smidge: A Puffalo costume. (She puts on the mask.) It is Be Adorable Day.
Biggie: But Snuggle Squids are terrified of Puffalos! (The Snuggle Squid opens its eyes and sees Smidge in her costume. She tries to wave, but it roars in fright.)
Smidge: Wait! I’m not a Puffalo! (The Snuggle Squid throws the Trolls out of its tentacles and runs away.) It’s OK! Don’t be scared!
Poppy: (gasps) This is a disaster! (The Snuggle Squid goes through some pink glitter and falls. The Trolls’ screaming can be heard as Poppy’s eyes explode. She hyperventilates in panic.) I’ve got to put a stop to this! (She whimpers as she tries to come up with an idea.) Freeze tag! (She freeze tags some Trolls and creatures.) This is gonna take a while. (She goes on to freeze more Trolls. Later that night, she is on the stage to apologize. She speaks with the microphone once more.) Look, this was not my best day queening. I tried to avoid making the Blank Day decision so I wouldn’t ruin anyone’s holiday dreams. But I see now, being a leader means making tough choices.
Smidge: Well, which holiday did you choose, Poppy?
Creek: Yeah, which shell-ebration? (He laughs at the blue male Troll.)
Troll #4: Stop. Just… Just stop.
Poppy: Everyone’s ideas were great, but to me, one was clearly the best.
Glitter Troll #2: (Hugging a female Glitter Troll) Here it comes.
Poppy: So I choose…
Sky: Queen Poppy.
Poppy: Huh?
Sky: You should know it just turned midnight. Blank Day is over.
Poppy: Wait. It is? (The crowd groans.) So what day is it now? (Sky’s assistant shows him the calendar.)
Sky: Hm. Uncontainable Applause Day. (The crowd of Trolls starts to clap and cheer.)
Poppy: (gasps) Well, OK, then. (She, Branch, Sky and his assistant close their eyes and start cheering. Poppy moves her arms back and forth in the air, Branch puts his hands in the air and claps, Sky claps with his hands in front of his body, and his assistant moves his arms up and down.) WHOO!
All: YAAAAAAAAAY! WOOOOO-HOOOOO! YAAAAAAAAY!
