The following is a transcript for the episode "BPF".
Script
(Poppy is watering some flowers while humming a tune. Just then, Holly runs up to her.)
Holly: Poppy! Poppy! Oh, have I got somethin’ to show you! But I gotta warn ya, it’s real cute!
Poppy: Holly, please. I adore cute. I hardly think I need to warn y- (Holly takes out her pet Pig Critter Pigtail, causing Poppy to gasp.) Eee! (She falls over.)
Holly: Poppy! (She gasps and helps Poppy up.) Poppy, you OK, girl?
Poppy: Holly, who is that?
Holly: (giggles) That’s Pigtail. (Pigtail oinks.) See, Now that I’m settled here in TrollsTopia, I figured it was time to send home for my BPF. (She hugs Pigtail and they touch each other’s noses.)
Poppy: Sorry, BPF?
Holly: Um… Best pest friend? Surely you have pets in the Pop Tribe, right? I mean, what about… (She points at Biggie.)
Biggie: What?! Mr. Dinkles is not a pet! (Mr. Dinkles throws a frisbee and her runs after it like a dog and catches it.)
Holly: Uh… I guess that stand corrected?
Poppy: Yeah. BPFs must be one of those things that’s unique to the Country Western Tribe.
Holly: Oh, really? (She turns Poppy and she sees Dante, Lownote, and Val with their BPFs. Val has a snake named Fang.)
Val: Meeeeeh! (Synth comes out of the water with a water bird in a helmet.)
Poppy: You… you all have BPFs?
Val: Well, yeah. (As she talks, Fang wraps around her.) When I heard Holly’s pet was coming to TrollsTopia, I decided send home for old Fang here. Didn’t I, my little boy?
Holly: Uh… Val, I think you wittle boy is tryin’ to squeeze all the air out your lungs.
Val: Oh, yeah. (She frees herself from Fang.) We call those his love hugs. Yes, we do! Yes, we do! (Fang tries to bite her and she hugs him.) Aw!
Poppy: OK, I’ve seen enough! I have to have a BPF! But how do I find one?
Holly: (laughs) We can help with that, sugar. There’s tons of creatures lookin’ for a Troll to care for ‘em.
Synth: (laughs) Yeah! Like I always say, there’s plenty of birds in the sea. (His water bird squawks. Soon, Poppy, Holly, and Val reach a critter home.)
Holly: All right, Poppy, we found a great critter match for you. She’s got a big personality and an even bigger heart. Say hello to Perky the Grinchilla! (Perky comes out of her home and squeaks.)
Poppy: Aw! (Perky jumps down from her home and she hugs her.)
Val: Yeah. I’d pet that. (That evening, Poppy takes Perky to her pod while laughing.)
Poppy: Oh, that’s funny! You are funny! Did you hear the one about the glitter-covered almonds? They’re pretty nuts! (She and Perky laugh.) You know, they say when you can share a comfortable silence with someone, it’s a sign of compatibility. Or maybe I could say “competibility”. (She and Perky blush.) Anyway, I’ll get some refreshments. Make yourself at home. (Perky sits on her chair and goes to sleep. Poppy pours some water for her and Perky.) So, Perky, today has been just so great and know it’s really soon, but what would you say if I asked you to be my BP- (She drops her cup and bowl and sees Perky biting into one of her scrapbooks. She gasps in horror and meets up with Holly and Val.) It was a BPF disaster!
Holly: Oof! Sorry, girlfriend.
Val: Yeah. You want to hold Fang? (She shows Fang sucking on her hand.) Might make you feel better. (Fang chomps on her hand.)
Poppy: Uh… I’m good.
Holly: OK, so Perky didn’t work out, so what? Poppy, you don’t stop swingin’ at the piñata just ‘cause the candy didn’t drop on the first whack.
Poppy: I find this metaphor relatable.
Holly: Then let’s go get you another critter to call BPF! (She holds out her hand.) Go, team?
Poppy: (Putting her hand on Holly’s hand) Go, team!
Val: (Putting her hand inside Fang’s mouth on Poppy’s hand) Go, team! (Soon, Poppy meets a yellow bird on a picnic.)
Poppy: (Taking out her food) It’s such a pleasure to meet you. Tell me all about yourself.
Yellow Bird: (squawks) A hug is a sign of emotional weakness and is inferior to a firm handshake. (squawks)
Poppy: (Putting her food away) OK, this has been great. (She walks away and meets a Grossum on a bench.) So, you’re nocturnal. What’s it like staying up all night? (The Grossum is seen sleeping.) Ugh. (She then meets a pink bird.) I gotta say, I’ve had a really good time. Maybe you and I could take this to the next- (She sees more pink birds flying south for the winter. The pink bird squawks at Poppy.) Oh. I see. (The bird squawks again.) Of course. If you have to go south for the winter, I understand. (The bird squawks sadly and flies away.) I’ll never forget you either. (She meets with Holly and Val again and groans. We can see that she is sitting on something that looks like a rock.) I give up!
Holly: Oh, now don’t lose hope, Poppy girl. You know, sometimes you find a BPF when you least expect it.
Poppy: Oh, come on. Let’s be real, guys. My BPF isn’t just gonna pop out of no- Whoa! (She falls over. We can see that she was sitting on a turtle named Shelliot. She sees how cute he is and gets up.) Well, hello there… Mr. Turtle. (Shelliot makes a noise.) Oh, Mr. Turtle was your father’s name? (giggles) OK, then. Yes, I will call you Shelliot. That’s really cute, by the way. (She laughs while Holly and Val cheer.) So, um… are you busy today? Wanna go play fetch? (Shelliot makes another noise.) What? No. Blah. What am I saying? Turtles don’t play fetch. (chuckles) Oh, I’m sorry. I’m just really nervous and… (Shelliot picks her up with his shell.) Oh! Oh, you’re going to make the plans? Wow. I guess you could say you swept me off my feet. (She laughs as Shelliot carries her away. She gets ice cream for her and Shelliot, he protects her from the rain, and they run on the beach. As they do these things, Poppy sings In My Life (Everything I Needed).)
(Poppy)
I get this feeling
When I’m here with you
There’s nothing wrong in the world
So get closer
Get closer
Get closer
Let me hold you
Let me look in your eyes
When you know it
You know it
You know it
You’re everything I need in my life
In my life (After that, She walks with Val and Holly while carrying a bowl of cupcakes.)
Holly: (laughs) It sounds like things with Shelliot are goin’ very well! Do I hear collar bells? (She holds a collar and rings its bells.)
Poppy: Oh, I think so! In fact, I’m on my way to meet him for cupcakes now and I personalized his bowl.
Holly and Val: Ooh!
Poppy: And you know, I’m glad I stuck out with all of those other pets ‘cause now I see with Shelliot and I have is really special. (She hears Shelliot.) Oh! There he is now!
Holly: Good luck, Poppy girl! (She and Holly leave. Poppy goes through the bushes and sees Branch playing fetch with Shelliot.)
Branch: Come on, boy! Fetch! (His laughing slows down and he throws the stick.) Hi-ya! (As Shelliot runs after it, Poppy drops her bowl of cupcakes. Shelliot catches the stick by biting it. Closeup of Poppy's feet as the bowl and cupcakes land on the ground. Shelliot then jumps into Branch’s arms.)
Poppy: No! (Branch lets of Shelliot.)
Branch: Poppy?
Poppy: Oh, I think this is exactly what it looks like, Shelliot. Or should I go back to calling you Mr. Turtle? (Shelliot comes out from behind Branch’s back.)
Branch: Uh, is something wrong?
Poppy: Yeah, it is, Branch! Turtles don’t play fetch. Or so I was led to believe. (Shelliot hides in his shell.)
Branch: Oh, right. (chuckles) It guess it is kinda odd, huh? But I came across Shelliot and he just felt right. We just seemed to have this connection, you know?
Poppy: Yeah. (She takes the stick from Branch.) I do know, Branch. ‘Cause Shelly and I have just as much of a connection if not more so. See? Come on, boy! Come on! Fetch! (She throws the stick and it bounces off a mushroom. Branch then looks at her.) Well, it seems I’ve made a mistake. Shelliot, you and Branch clearly have something we don’t, which is great. Frankly, I wasn’t sure we were a good fit anyway. (Shelliot looks at Poppy’s bowl.) Oh, that? (She gets in front of the bowl.) That’s just… I gotta go! (Very upset, she begins to cry and steps on the bowl she made as she runs away. She then meets with Val and Holly. We can see that she is trying to cheer herself up by eating a carton of ice cream.)
Holly: There, there, sugar.
Val: That’s rough.
Poppy: It’s just… with every pet that gets away, it feels like I’m just gonna wind up alone. You know, like… (sobs) I’m destined to be one of these old cat ladies… (sobs) … but with no cats! (She takes a spoonful of her ice cream.)
Holly: Poppy, no! Don’t say that!
Val: Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.
Poppy: Then how come it never works out, even with Perky? I mean, she seemed like the perfect BPF and then she tore up one of my scrapbooks! (She takes another spoonful of her ice cream.)
Holly: Wait. She ate your scrapbook? You never told us that.
Val: You said it was a BPF disaster.
Poppy: (sniffs) Well, yeah, it was. Wasn’t it? (Holly and Val laugh with their pets.)
Holly: Are you kiddin’?! That’s nothin’! Do you have any idea how often Pigtail ruins my stuff? (Pigtail oinks.)
Val: For real. Sometimes, I get a feeling Fang just wants to eat me. (The camera zooms out to see that she is almost fully in Fang’s mouth.)
Holly: Poppy, there is no such thing as a perfect BPF. The question is, are you perfect for each other? (Poppy thinks about Perky. In her home, she is eating ice cream to cheer herself up. Just then, she hears the song where Poppy sang earlier and looks at her for a moment. She then goes back in her home and comes back with the taped-up scrapbook.)
Poppy: Oh, Perky! (Perky jumps into her arms and she hugs her. Perky’s eyebrows form a heart.)
Holly: Oh, now ain’t that the sweetest thing you’ve ever seen, Val? (Val does not answer.) Val? (We see Val inside Fang’s body.)
Val: Yeah! Very sweet!
